B Local Georgia Adopts a Highway!

Through a partnership with Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful (KACCB), B Local Georgia is the proud adopter of a long neglected stretch of road in the Classic City. Located on Athens’ eastside between Winterville Rd and Hancock Industrial Way, Hancock Road was one of several unadopted stretches of highway in Georgia’s sixth largest city.

B Local Georgia’s founder, Nathan Stuck, played a large role in the move to get involved in one of our most active communities. A local resident and board member of KACCB, Stuck explained that “neglect begets neglect, and the longer the litter and debris remain uncollected and unsightly, the more it invites others to litter, compounding the problem.”

And given Athens’ importance and involvement with B Local Georgia, it was a no-brainer to get involved. B Local Georgia board member Jake Mosley, director of student affairs with UGA’s Full-Time MBA program, and one of the architects of the new B Collaborative experiential learning program at UGA, was at the first cleanup last month and plans to attend more of them. “I can’t help not be involved,” he told us. “Athens has been so important to me and B Local Georgia has been so helpful for our students pursuing social entrepreneurship and sustainability, it was just the perfect opportunity to give back.”

The first cleanup was held March 20th and had everyone from B Corp™ owners like Luis Imery, of Imery Group, to employees and UGA students and even those pursuing their own B Corp™ certification, like Katherine Shayne, founder and CEO of Athens-based Can I Recycle This. “Everything this cleanup is about is what I am about, both personally and as a business owner,” Shayne stated. And she, like Jake and Nathan, is already looking forward to the next one.
